Blog post 5 - A subject I have enjoyed studying this year

Imagen
This year I started studying sociology and in this second semester I took a class on social  theory .  Because of the things that have happened this year, the modality of the class has  been online, so the relationship with my classmates and teachers is different from what it  could be in other years . The course is given with video capsules while we read the authors  and, before the exam, we have a face-to-face online class. The general purpose of the  course is to present the arguments and fundamental concepts of the founders of  the sociological   theory  (marx, durkheim y weber,  who are the ones in the photo)  produced approximately between 1840 and 1930 in both Europe  and North America .   What I like about this subject are two things: one is that the discussions that occur force me to reflect, and another is that it is the most practical subject because the things I learn I can apply to real life and start making my own reflections . I believe that this is the class that mo

Blog post 4 - A photograph I like

This is a picture I took in April 2020 in my house when the quarantine started in my region. I like this picture because it symbolizes my life in confinement. That day, my parents cooked “pastel de papas” but I couldn't eat with her because I had to finish a rehearsal, so I had to eat alone at my desk with my computer and my notebooks as an accompaniment. Why not on a plate? because this way it is tastier.  I think the most depressing time of the day is in the afternoon. I do not usually take many photographs because later they get lost and I do not see them, also because, in general, seeing photographs does not produce anything, but this image seemed to me that it broke with this noon boredom. I don't think that photos can take you back to the past, but I think that a good photo can make you smile in the present.

Expert in my field who I admire

Tomás Moulian is a Chilean sociologist and political scientist. He is originally from Santiago, Chile.  He has done a lot of interesting research and work on historical interpretation and criticism of the post-dictatorship economic structure of Chile.  H e has written a lot during his life and on various topics. His most famous books are: "Chile actual: anatomía de un mito", "En la brecha. Derechos humanos, críticas y alternativas".   I found the topic about the Chilean democracy after the dictatorship interesting precisely because I live in it. I discovered this author when I saw him in an interview that another sociologist, who interests me, had done. In the interview they talked about their essay "Chile actual: anatomía de un mito", where he made an interesting analysis of current Chilean society, and calling the current democracy as a transformism of the dictatorship. What I like the most about Moulian is that he is a very critical person of Chilea

My favorite gadget

This gadget has been in my house for as long as I can remember. It is very cheap so I do not use it with much affection. I think I use it every day at least once a day.  I think it is the culmination of human ingenuity. It has two important parts. It has a handle so as not to burn your hands and to be able to handle it. Its main part is the body that receives the flame directly. Usually smoke comes out because I do not remove the remains of crumbs. I think there are other gadgets that can fulfill its function in a better way. However, I believe that this mechanism is the most optimal of all. I think if I didn't have it, my teeth wouldn't tolerate stale bread.
First Blog: Why you chose this career? When I was a child I wanted to be an archaeologist. This is because I really liked dinosaurs. When I was a teenager I began to think about other options . I thought about studying mathematical engineering because I liked mathematics a lot, I kept that option throughout the school. However, at the high school I started to like music and history a lot, so in my last years of school I doubted a bit about my career. Finally, I study mathematics engineering for just one semester and then I left and realized that I wanted to be a sociologist. The experience in the university has been very good, in the online classes not so much. I like the knowledge they teach us, and the teachers and classmates are very nice. I would like to continue studying to work as a professor at the university and do research and publish.
